Named after the Saint's mausoleum nearby, constitutes an architectural masterpiece and a religious and historical building in Settat.
The mosque, which constitutes a favorite destination for the faithful of the province, for prayer, reading of the Holy Koran and the invocation of God, is a centuries-old religious building, due to its architecture and its outbuildings decorated with traditional zellige and typical decorations.
The total surface area of ​​this old mosque, whose construction dates back to the 18th century, is 900 m2, divided into a prayer room for men (314 m2) and another for women (116 m2), according to a presentation note from the delegation Provincial Islamic Affairs of Settat.
The capacity of this mosque, which overlooks one of the main avenues of the city of Settat, namely Avenue Hassan II in the center of the city, is more than 500 faithful.
In this context, Mohamed Jaadaoui, responsible for the provincial delegation of Islamic affairs of Settat, indicated, in a statement to MAP, that this religious building, which has been debated on the date of its construction dating back to the 18th century, enjoys of a distinguished location in the capital of Chaouia.
This mosque, which adjoins the holy Sidi Laghlimi and the historic monument Kasbah Ismaïlia, is part of a rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Settat, he said, noting that it has become a destination of choice for the faithful and pious people looking for peace and serenity.
Mr. Jaadaoui specified that the name of the mosque comes from the name of Sidi Laghlimi, due to its proximity to the mausoleum of this saint, originally from the region of Regraga, near the city of Essaouira, noting that this wise man , an ascetic and mystic settled in the town of Settat where he built a modest house and devoted himself to the worship of God.
Citing researchers, he indicated that the mausoleum is the first witness to human settlement in the capital of Chaouia, noting that this saint has become an important symbol of the city, given that he played an important role in the dissemination of the precepts and values ​​of Islam as an Imam who led Friday prayers.
The Sidi Laghlimi mosque, which was renovated in 2007 by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, organizes several religious, cultural and scientific activities, and hosts conferences and meetings organized by the council of ulema, he concluded.
